Massasoit CC 8,2 – Bridgton Academy 2,1

The Warriors swept a double header at Louis R. Colombo Field from Bridgeton Academy by score of 8-2 and 2-1.

Tom Protentis was rock solid on the mound in game as he but the first 12 batters down in a row. Bridgton touched Tom up for two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Warriors broke it open with five consecutive singles in the top of the sixth inning to secure an 8-2 win. The highlight of the inning was a double suicide squeeze bunt laid down by Jimmy Commesso that resulted in two runs scoring. Matt Levasseur had a pair of hits and Nick Oliveira has two hits and knocked in two runs.

In game two Mike Nader gutted out a 2-1 win. It seemed like every inning Mike had runners on, but he managed to pitch his way out of jam after jam to pick up the 2-1 victory. Matt Levasseur had two more hits in this game and scored a run as his bat is starting to get heat up. Dave Murphy had a sixth inning rbi and when the Bridgton pitcher misplayed coverage at first on a slow ground ball, Matt Levasseur scored the go ahead run. Mike then went out and retired the last thee hitters to secure the win.

Matt Levasseur went 4-6 on the day and scored the winning run on the second game as the Warriors swept Bridgeton Academy 8-2 and 2-1.

NECC 7, 4 – Massasoit CC 1, 3

The NECC Knights swept a twin bill from the Warriors, despite excellent pitching from Zack Reid and Jake Stearns. The Warriors managed six hits in the first game ( a 7-1 loss), but couldn’t bunch them together as Dave Murphy managed to plate the only Warrior run with a double he crushed into the left center field gap in the third inning. Shaky defense was our undoing as two outfield errors and a pair of infield miscues sealed Zacks’ fate. Zack only allowed two earned runs and deserved batter better for his gutsy performance on the mound.

Jake Staerns didn’t fare much better as he scattered four hits and struck out seven NECC hitters.Once again a pair of infield errors open the door for Northern Essex and they took advantage in the 4-3 loss. The Warriors plated a single run in the sixth and two more in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough, as the Warriors could only manage three hits on the day. Northern Essex tried to help us out, as they shortstop booted a perfect 6-4-3 double play ball in the top of the seventh, but the fourth run died on first base.

Warriors 16 – Naval Prep 0

Brent Eaton went 8 innings and struck out 9 Naps batters as the bats came alive for the Warriors. Alex Carey, Dave Murphy and Matt Levasseur all had four hit games.

It was a cold day as the wind was whipping onto the field off of the water, but the Warriors bats were red hot, as they broke out with a string of hits that chased the second Naps pitcher and secured the win.

Brent pitched a gem allowing only 2 hits and striking out 9 batters as he picked up the win for the Warriors.

Dean 10 – Massasoit CC 6

The Warriors lost 10-6 to the Dean Bulldogs at Louis R. Colombo Field. The relief pitching of Scott Anderson and Mitchell Walsh was solid as they only allowed two earned runs over the final five innings. It was the seven runs scored in the first four innings that spelled disaster for the Warriors.

Justin Martinho had four hits in five at bats and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Warrior offense. The home team had multiple opportunities to score runs, but failure to hit with runners on has been the downfall for the Warriors all season.

The Warriors travel to Newport, RI on Thursday for a nine inning tilt with Naval Prep. Brent Eaton will take the hill for the 3:30 pm start.

Justin Martinho had a four hit day and rove in a pair of runs in a 10-6 loss to Dean College.

Quinsigamond CC 11 Massasoit CC 6

The Warriors had a few bright spots in an otherwise dismal day. Dave Murphy hit two home runs and drove in three runs and Cory Walker pitched 3 and 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball.

The Warriors were behind 6-2 after Quinsigamond scored 5 runs on the top of the fifth inning. The home team scored four runs highlighted by Murphy’s two run blast to tie the score at six all. Quinsigamond then came back to plate five more runs with three coming via bases loaded walks.

All in all, it was a very disappointing performance by the Warriors, on the mound, in the field and at the plate. Weather permitting Massasoit will face Dean College at home tomorrow in a 3:30 contest.

Warriors sweep NHTI…

The Warriors swept a doubleheader from New Hampshire Tech by scores of 7-4 and 4-1. In game one the Warriors got off to a shaky start with three first inning errors, that led to 3 unearned runs. After that Zack Reid cruised to a 7-4 win. Zack scattered four hits and struck out seven in a complete game effort that  leaves him 2-1 on the season. The home team came back in the bottom of the first to score four runs on Evan Derochea’s rbi single and a two rbi single by Nick Oliveira. The Warriors plated two more runs in the second on Dave Murphy’s two rbi double.

In game two Tom Protentis allowed only one run to cross the plate in a six inning effort. Brent Eaton came on in the seventh inning with a runner on first and slammed the door to pick up the save in a 4-1 victory. Murphy (one rbi) and Oliveira (two rbis) once more picked up the offense and Chris Langley chipped in with two hard hit singles and scored the first run of the game.
