A Dissappointing way to end the season…

The Warriors ended the 2013 season with a pair of losses, that eliminated them from the NJCAA Region XXI, Division III Tournament. Leading by 9 runs after three innings of play in the first game of the day against Northern Essex, the defense fell apart and the Knights came up with key hit after key hit to tie the game up and ultimately take the lead. The Warriors had several chances to tie and regain the lead, but the Knights, last years Region XXI Champs had turned the momentum of the game completely around. The final score was Northern Essex CC 12 – Massasoit CC 11.

In the second elimination game against Holyoke CC, a make shift lineup was put in place to compensate for a Warriors starter who was ejected in the first game. With our offense minimized, We could only plate a run, in a 7-1 loss to the Cougars from Holyoke CC.

After the third inning of the first game, the Warriors were only able to score three runs in thirteen innings of play. Travis Ritchie had a great day with five hits and he hit for the cycle (single, double, triple and a home run) over the two games. Chris Roumbakis was able to drive in a critical run, to tie the score at 11 in the first game, but the rest of the offense simply had a rough day at the plate.

The Warriors ended up 21-18 on the season, but the last two losses will be remembered for a long time. I wish the sophomores luck as they move on to four year colleges and look forward to seeing the freshman back on campus in September.
