Massasoit CC 11 – Holyoke CC 5

The Warriors recorded a big win as they travled up the Mass Pike to take on the Holyoke CC Cougars. They faced left hander, Freddy Andujar who handcuffed them a week and a half ago in a 4-1 Holyoke victory. Luke Nagle (2-1) started the game for the Warriors and over 6 and 2/3 innings only allowed five hits. It was a gutsy effort by the freshman right hander who battled the cold and a red hot Cougar lineup. Holyoke took a three run lead in the second inning an it stood up until the Warriors tied the game in the fifth on clutch rbis by Joe Walsh (who had four hits on the day) and Trevor Packard. In the sixth the Warriors took the lead with Walsh and Tyler Andrade plating the go ahead runs.

Luke came out for the seventh, but allowed a pair of hits. Brandon Quirk entered the game with a runner on first and struck out the next two hitters looking to extinguish the Cougar threat. Quirk proceeded to strike out six Holyoke batters in 2 and 2/3 innings to pick up the save. Quirk elevated his game and it led to a Warrior victory celebration. Travis Ritchie had a great day despite the lefty/lefty match-up registering four hits and scoring three runs. The top of revamped lineup: Ritchie, Walsh and Andrade had 10 hits on the day.

The Warriors opened up a two game lead over the Cougars and held on to first place in the Region XXI, Division III standings. the team returns to action on Saturday with a nine inning tilt against the Springfield JV in a game to be played at Springfield College at 3:00 pm.
