Warriors Drop Two…

The Warriors played a double header with the Division II ranked Kirkwood (IA) CC Eagles. In the first game the Warriors held a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning, highlighted by a bases loaded double by Joe Walsh that plated three runs. Once again walks proved to be the Warriors undoing as the Eagles came right back to take a one run lead in the bottom of the inning. The Warriors took the lead again in the top of the sixth inning on a run  scoring single by Tyler Andrade. Brandon Quirk pitched three solid innings of relief, but took the loss when a sacrifice bunt ended up being thrown into right field allowing the wining run to score in the bottom of the eighth. The final tally was Kirkwood 7, Massasoit 6.

In game two Ethan Kelley pitched seven solid innings scattering four hits and striking out six Eagle batters. Kirkwood scored an unearned run on the first inning and plated a second run in the fourth. The Warriors only managed five hits in the game, with Damian Bellotti singling in Ben Monteiro for the only Warrior run. In the fourth inning the Warriors had bases loaded with two out. Chris Roumbakis hit an absolute heat seeking rocket to the gap in left centerfield. The Eagle left fielder laid out to make a web gem catch and that was really game, set and match. The final score was Kirkwood 2, Massasoit 1.

The upside to this game was the great pitching by Ethan Kelley and the fact that the Warriors more than held their own against some very solid competition. The boys head back to the diamond tomorrow for a 4:00 pm game against Iowa Lakes CC.
