Warriors Open 2013 Season With A Split…

The Massasoit Community College Warriors opened their 2013 season with a split. In the first game against Northern Iowa Area CC, Dave Tarr pitched 5 solid innings allowing only one earned run. Dave struck out seven hitters and only allowed three hits, more importantly he did not issue a walk in his first collegiate outing. Trailing 2-1, the Warriors spit the bit in the sixth and seventh innings as 10 walks and a pair of errors proved to be their undoing. Chris Adams had a pair of hits and Luke Nagle drove in the only Warrior run.

The second game was a solid team effort that resulted in a 3-1 win over the Ontario Blue Jays. Facing a potent offensive line-up, Ben Monteiro was dominant as he pitched a complete game victory. Throwing an economical 86 pitches, Ben scattered six hits, struck out six batters and issued no bases on balls. We talked about the importance of not issuing walks and Ben and Dave pitched 12 innings without allowing a single free pass. Offensively in the second game, Luke Nagle stayed hot with a pair of hits and scored a run. Chris Roumbakis had three hits in three at bats and knocked in a run. Travis Ritchie reached base three times via two walks and a single.

The Warriors face a talented Kirkwood CC (IA) squad tomorrow in a 1:00 pm double header.
