Warriors sweep Bunker Hill CC

The Warriors traveled to Bunker Hill CC to play a week day, double header against the Bull Dogs. Dave Tarr was on the hill in the first game and he was up to the task as he pitched a four hitter and struck out eight batters. The Warriors took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning.  A Joe Walsh double and a Scott O’Brien single scored the first run. Trevor Packard plated Scott and Travis Ritchie knocked in Trevor, to give Dave all the offensive support that he needed. The only blip on the radar occurred in the bottom of that inning, when Dave walked the first two hitters and they came around to score to make it a one run game. Trevor Packard opened the fifth inning with a single for his second hit of the game and scored when Dave Murphy doubled to give the Warriors a 4-2 lead. Dave showed incredible poise in the bottom of the sixth, when he struck out two Bull Dog batters with the bases loaded. He improved to 3-2 on the season.

In game two, Luke Nagle (4-1) took the ball and he gave up only four hits while striking out four. He did not issue a free pass in the six inning “slaughter” rule win. Joe Walsh had a three hit game and knocked in a run and Nick Oliveira hd a pair of hits and three rbi. The big hit that broke the game open was a two out bases double by Luke that plated all three runners. That was enough to send the Warriors onto a 10 run margin of victory.

The sweep locked up the #1 seed in the NJCAA Division III Regional Tournament, that will be hosted by the Warriors starting on Friday, May 9, 2014. The Warriors travel tomorrow for a nine inning tilt with the Northern Essex CC Knights in Havehill, MA. Shane Holmes will take the ball for the Warriors in a 3:30 pm start.
