Warriors sweep Northern Essex CC

The Warriors played some inspired baseball today, as they swept the Northern Essex CC Knights by scores of 4-3 and 6-4.

In game one, Shane Holmes was dominant as he scattered four hits, struck out 11 and did not allow an earned run. Dave Murphy hit a home run in the first inning to give the Warriors a brief 1-0 lead. The Knights came back with two in the third, the result of some poor infield play. They added a run  in the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead. In the top of the seventh, Luke Nagle reached on an infield error,was sacrificed to second by Matt Levasseur and scored on a Joe Walsh double that almost left the yard. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Travis Ritchie hit a one out single and scored all the way from first base on a Pat Murray walk-off double to give the Warriors a 4-3 extra inning win.

In game two, the Knights struck for single runs in the first and third innings. In the fourth inning, starting pitcher, Luke Nagle hit a bases loaded double to give the Warriors a 4-2 lead. The Knights scored a run in the fourth and sixth innings as a result of two dropped fly balls, to knot the score at four.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Joe Walsh led off with a double that once again, just missed going over the fence. With two outs Scott O’Brien coaxed a walk to put runners on first and second. Nick Oliveira hit a clutch single to plate the go ahead run and Travis Ritchie followed with a base knock to provide a two run cushion. Luke went out in the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off single, but two strikeouts and a ground ball resulted in a 6-4 win for the Warriors.

Nagle came back after closing out the UCAP game to pick up his third win of the season. He struck out seven Knights and more importantly did not allow a walk.

The Warriors are now 10-7 and face the Southern NH JV tomorrow in a 12:00 double header. Brent Eaton will start game #1 and Corey Walker will start game #2.
