Warriors top Northern Essex CC 7-1

Shane Holmes was at his best in the Warriors 7-1 win over the Northern Essex CC Knights. He struck out 12 batters and scattered six hits. More important he only issued one free pass and a single hit batter. The Warriors played errorless baseball and in the immortal words of Earl Weaver, “walks plus errors less than five” usually mean a win.

The Warriors scored in the top of the second inning when Luke Nagle trotted home on a hard hit ball by Chris Roumbakis that skipped off the shortstop’s glove into the outfield. The Knights turned right around and tied it up in the bottom of the inning. After that Shane slammed the door. The Warriors took the lead in the top of the sixth when Travis Ritchie reached base via a walk and scored on Luke Nagle’s smash into right centerfield gap. The Warriors added runs in the seventh and eighth innings. They put the game away in the top of the ninth plating three additional insurance runs.

The offense was balanced as seven different players drove in runs. Luke Nagle had a big day with three hits a run scored and a rbi. Trevor Packard continued to drive in runs with a pair of hits. Pat “Muzz” Murray remained “Mr. Consistent” with a pair of hits, a run scored and an rbi.

The Warriors are scheduled to play tomorrow against Dean College band Tom Protentis will take the mound for the 3:30 pm game. With a 19-9 record, your Massasoit CC Warriors are now 14-4 since returning from Florida. They are 13-1 in Divisional play and will open the Region XXI Tournament as the #1 seed, a week from Friday.
