UCAP 12 – Massasoit CC 4

The Warriors traveled to Groton, Ct to take on the UCAP Pointers. Shane Holmes took the mound, and cruised through the first three innings. In the fourth with two outs, a routine fly ball was hit to the outfield and misplayed, four runs later, the Warriors were trying to play catch up. Joe Walsh hit a two run home run to move the team within two. It was the second of Joe’s three hits on the day. UCAP tacked on two more runs, leaving Shane with two earned runs to show for six innings of work. It was a solid effort for the freshman left-hander. In the seventh inning a two out error in the infield loaded the bases and one swing later we were chasing eight runs.

I told the team prior to the game that we were playing the top team in Region XXI and any mistakes would come back to haunt us. Those two, two out errors accounted for eight unearned runs. On the bright side Tyler Andrade had his second multi-hit game in a row and is really punishing the ball, as he and Joe Walsh led the team offensively.

Tomorrow we play a twin bill with New Hampshire Tech. Dave Tarr and Ben Monteiro will take the hill for the 11:00 am double header.

Joe Walsh had a three hit day for the Warriors, including a two run home run in the fourth inning against the UCAP Pointers.
