The Warriors needed one win to clinch the #1 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region XXI Tournament, when they faced the Bunker Hill CC Bulldogs in a double header played at Louis R. Colombo Field. Dave Tar was locked in a tight pitchers duel with the score knotted 3-3 in the sixth inning. In the bottom of the frame, Tyler Andrade came to the plate with two runners on and launched a pitch over the left center field fence for a three run Warrior lead. The Bulldogs plated two runs in the top of the seventh, but David was up to the task and closed out the game with a strikeout (one of seven on the day) and a ground ball to Scottie O’Brien who flipped to Chris Adams for the final out. Joe Walsh and Travis Ritchie both drove in three first inning runs to account for the Warrior scoring.
In the second game Ethan Kelley had control problems in the first inning, but settled down to pitch a gem as the Warriors picked up a 10-3 win. Kelley scatted four hits and struck out nine as he improved to 5-2 on the season. Tyler Andrade, Travis Ritchie and Pat Murray (who drove in two runs) all had two hit games and Chris Samaras drove in three runs with a single and a sacrifice fly.
The Warriors end up 12-3 in Region Division III play and are now 20-15 on the season. They travel to Eastern CT State University tomorrow to play a nine inning tilt with the ECSU Junior Varsity at 12:00 pm.
